What is Social Impact?

Definition of Social Impact means any significant or positive changes that solve or at least address social injustice and challenges. Businesses or organizations achieve these goals through conscious and deliberate efforts or activities in their operations and administrations

A significant, positive change that addresses a pressing social challenge.

The PMI community is dedicated to making a positive impact on society using project management—and together, creating a world of change.

In support of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Hours for Impact program offers a way to volunteer project management activities towards projects that help to better people’s lives and improve the world we live in, now and in the future.

We offer several options to volunteer your project management skills and make a difference in our world:

  • Project Managers Without Borders (PMWB) empowers non-profit and non-governmental organizations with sustainable solutions to maximize project success the direct application of project management skills and approaches, aligned with the United Nations SDGs.
  • PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF) helps to put young people on the path to success, realizing their potential through project management.
  • PMI chapters, or the organization you work for, may offer opportunities to pledge your project management skills toward social good.

Each member and volunteer of PMI takes responsibility for the world in which they live, according to the principle that we do not inherit the world from our parents, but borrow it from our children.

Also, the Young Professionals area, by implementing education-related projects, contributes to the implementation of sustainable development goals by registering our activities on the global PMI platform in the form of “Hours of Impact”.

All UN Sustainable Development Goals are described in detail on the website: https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/
